The court in Idukki today granted bail to all accused except the prime suspect Nikhil Payli in the killing of SFI activist and Painav Engineering student, Dheeraj Rajendran.
Nikhil Payli, the Youth Congress Vazhatopp Mandalam president, is charged with aggravated murder for stabbing Dheera on the fateful dayj. Those allowed bail are : Jerin Jojo, Jitin Upmakkal, Tony Thekirakadan, Nitin Lukose and Soimaan Sunny
KPCC General Secretary Adv S Ashokan appeared for the accused. The bail condition directs each accused to appear before the investigation team on all Saturdays and refrain from attempting to influence witnesses.
Backdrop:
Dheeraj Rajendran, 21, was a final year student at Government Engineering College in Painav and also a SFI activist. During college elections day on 10 Jan, a gang of Youth Congress workers from outside arrived into the campus and stabbed Dheeraj to death over some trivial argument. Two other students, Thrissur native Abhijit T Sunil and Kollam native AS Amal too suffered injuries in the attack.
