Researchers Exploring Laterite Cave Unearth 3 Sealed Chambers: Kudallur

Researchers exploring the recently discovered laterite cave in Anakkara, Kudallur discovered a third chamber Wednesday. The latest chamber is located in the front portion of the cave. Two chambers discovered earlier, have not been yet opened. The 3rd chamber is located right next to the earlier two.

When mud filling entrance to the cave was carefully removed, the slabs to the three chambers appeared in view. The corridor leading to the gate is triangular in shape. The flight of steps to the chambers are carved in laterite. The slab on the west side must be opened to uncover what contents there might lie inside of the chambers, the researchers said. The slabs are 80 cm tall and 60 cm wide. The corridor to the slabs is 125 cm in length.

The triangular corridor is carved most magnificently and is the prime frontage to the cave. The excavations are being done supervised by officer in charge at Kozhikode Pazhassi Raja Museum, K. Krishnraj, VA Vimal Kumar and K Binoj.
