The national news agency reported the collapse of a three-story building in the Qibbeh district of Tripoli situated in Northern Lebanon on Sunday. According to reports, an infant died on the spot while others were severely injured including an elderly woman who was evacuated on a stretcher. Several photos and videos of the incident started to surface on the internet while the civil defense, the Red Cross, and Internal security forces rushed to the scene.
Najib Mikati, the prime minister of Lebanon has ordered the local hospitals to treat the wounded in a timely manner. He has also asked the higher relief committeee to compensate those who were affected by this tragedy. The army has established a security cordon on the perimeter to ensure that everyone has been evacuated from the spot.
Some parts of Lebanon have been dealing with heavy torrential rains which could be a cause of the building collapse. A similar incident took place in 2012 when NNA reported the fall of a six-story building in Beirut in which at least 25 people were killed.
