21 teenagers found dead in South Africa

21 teenagers were found dead in a pub in the coastal city of East London, South Africa. The police have released statements addressing the lack of reasons as to what caused this incident, sending citizens into a state of concern and curiosity.

The teenagers who the police assume to be between the ages 13 – 19 also in their initial reports, suspected the cause of these mass deaths to be a stampede. But that theory was overruled as forensic experts found the type of injuries on the victims to be inconsistent to the claims of a stampede.

Unathi Binquose, the spokesman for the Department of Community Safety in the Eastern Cape said that the tavern had hosted a large party on Saturday night for joint causes. One of them being the birthday parties of 2 DJs and a celebration of South Africa dropping its mask mandate for public places. When the doors were closed to control the crowd, a small nudge from someone might’ve turned into a full-blown stampede. But as mentioned above, the theory was overruled.

This raises the question of 13-year-old kids hanging out at bars. To this, the bar owner – Siyakhangela Ngevu – said that since the minimum age for patronizing a bar is 18 in South Africa, his establishment never allowed minors in, but they hung outside sometimes. The police has taken over the surveillance footage at the bar to get more answers.
