Internet suspended, Gatherings banned in Rajasthan, section 144 imposed

Mass gatherings have been banned and internet usage suspended across the city of Udaipur, Rajasthan for the last 24 hours. In a tragic event, a tailor named Kanhaiya Lal was killed by two men at his tailor shop on Maldas street. Both the accused, Riyaz Mohammed and Gaus Mohammed who are the residents of Khanjipar area have been arrested. Ever since, a gruesome video of the incident has been circulating over the internet showing the assailants committing the heinous crime and threatening Prime Minister Modi.

The person was killed allegedly over a social media post supporting the former BJP spokesperson, Nupur Sharma who was suspended for making public remarks during a television debate that outraged many. Expressing his grief over the incident, Rajasthan’s chief minister Ashok Gehlot said, “It is a sad and shameful incident. There is a tense atmosphere in the nation today….. there is tension among the people. The PM should address the public and say that such violence won’t be tolerated and appeal for peace.”

He added that the investigation of the case has been handed over to the case officer scheme to ensure a speedy trial and punishment for the criminals. In view of this crime, Section 144 has been imposed in Dhanmandi, Ghantaghar, Surajpol, Ambamata, and adjoining areas of Udaipur till further orders.
