Bomb thrown at CPI(M) Headquarters, Security tightens, High alert in Kerala

Security tightens in the state capital of Kerala after an unidentified person targeted the CPI(M) headquarters, AKG center in the state capital on Thursday night. It was reported that the incident took place around 11;30 PM when a man on a motorbike hurled a bomb at the gate before escaping from the spot. The police and a team of officials hurried to check the CCTV footage and scrutinize the area. A situation of High alert grips Kerala as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit his constituency in Wayanad (north Kerala) this Friday.

A member of the CPI(M) central committee and a former Lok Sabha member, P.K. Sreemathy told that “I was on the third floor of the AKG center when I heard a loud sound around 11:30 and saw smoke coming from the gate…All democratic forces should condemn such heinous attacks.” The explosive allegedly hit a stone wall at the building due to which there was no damage or casualties.

Finance minister KN Balagopal, Education minister V Sivankutty and many other officials reached the AKG center as soon as the incident occurred. The police have tightened security in several areas of the district in order to avoid any possible protest marches. An investigation has already been launched to identify the culprits behind this aggressive attack, the police added.
