Bodies Of Five In A Family Recovered After Landslide In Moolamattam

Bodies of five in a family, missing after an early dawn landslide in Thodupuzha’s Moolamuttam, have been recovered. The dead bodies were excavated early this morning.  The landslide that struck in Kanjari had swept away the house of a native, Chittachalil Soman. Found deceased during rescue attempts are Soman, wife Jaya, mother Thankamma, daughter Sheeba, and Sheeba’s4-year-old son Devanand.

The searchers first came upon Thankamma’s body, then her grandson Devanand followed by Sheeba. The bodies of Soman and Jaya were recovered later. All were found a distance down the slope from where their house originally stood.

The landslide struck at 3 am the morning after which the plot where Soman’s house was and the surrounding land slid down in the shake-up and rushing waters. Downpours began last night but have eased a bit late morning. Police, Fire Force, and locals together began the search at first.  NDRF team from Thrissur too arrived for rescue. Revenue officials are also present at the scene.
