Election Commission(EC) cannot interfere with policy decisions of political parties, said CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury. That’s none of EC’s business. It is not up to EC to regulate promises a party makes to public in terms of policies or welfare scheme, said Yechury, adding that the Commission’s current stance runs contrary to its submission to Supreme Court regarding freebies promised by political parties.
Any move to infringe rights of political parties or rein them shall be opposed for. EC’s move is a result of pressuring from govt at Centre, said Yechury.
