കോൺഗ്രസ് നേതാവും ആലപ്പുഴ മാരാരിക്കുളം മുൻ എംഎൽഎയുമായ പി.ജെ. ഫ്രാൻസിസ് (88) അന്തരിച്ചു. വാർദ്ധക്യസഹജമായ അസുഖങ്ങളെ തുടർന്നാണ് അന്ത്യം. രണ്ട് തവണ ഗൗരിയമ്മയ്ക്കെതിരെ മത്സരിച്ചു തോറ്റു. മൂന്നാം തവണ എൽഡിഎഫ് സ്ഥാനാർത്ഥിക്കെതിരെ വിജയിച്ച് എം എൽ എ ആയി ആദ്യമായി നിയമസഭയിൽ എത്തി. പിന്നീട് 2001 ൽ മാരാരിക്കുളത്ത് തോമസ് ഐസക്കിനോട് പരാജയപ്പെട്ടു. ആലപ്പുഴ ഡിസിസിയുടെ വൈസ് പ്രസിഡന്റായും, 1978 ൽ ആലപ്പുഴ നഗരസഭയിൽ പ്രതിപക്ഷ നേതാവായും പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു. വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച ഉച്ചക്ക് ശേഷം 3 മണിക്ക് ആലപ്പുഴ മൌണ്ട് കാർമ്മൽ കത്തീഡ്രൽ പള്ളിയിൽ സംസ്കാര ചടങ്ങുകൾ നടക്കും.
Congress leader and former MLA from Mararikulam, Alappuzha P.J. Francis (88) passed away. He died due to age-related ailments. He contested against Gouri Amma twice and lost. He won against the LDF candidate for the third time and entered the assembly as an MLA for the first time. Later, he lost to Thomas Isaac in Mararikulam in 2001. He served as the Vice President of Alappuzha DCC and as the Leader of Opposition in Alappuzha Municipality in 1978. The funeral will be held at Mount Carmel Cathedral Church, Alappuzha at 3 pm on Friday.
